Interview With Ben Dehan From Life On High

Last time we talked to Ben, he was rocking with American Diary but as time moved on, so did Ben. Now a part of something new and equally awesome, he's been rocking to the beat of a new drummer. Introducing...Life On High.

With infectious guitar hooks and speedy rhythyms, Life On High quickly made it to the top of the Pure Volume download charts and are stunning iTunes junkies worldwide with their new single, Say Hello. Check out this interview we got with him and don't forget to buzz this up!

What genre of music do you consider your work to be and who are your major influences?

Pop Rock, third eye blind, jimmy eat world, the starting line

How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

Ryan and I have been in bands together for over a decade, I met Dave and Luca this passed year while we were forming life on high

When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

Luca and I were talking and decided to go into studio to record a song he'd been working on. The chemistry was there and we came up with "say hello". The rest is history!

What motivated you to break off from American Diary?

There was a lack of connection between me and the other members. I wanted to branch out and do something new on my own

Do you see yourself heading in a different direction now? If so, what is the direction you see the band heading in now?

We want to continue writing songs that we love and that make people feel something. I've always been a big fan of minimalism and raw emotion in lyrics and production but I'm definitely a sucker for the songs that make the crowd go crazy

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

Since we're fresh on the scene we've only played four shows. I'd have to say my favorite two would be Recher Theatre in Baltimore and Jammin Java in Vienna, VA

What is your favorite of all your new songs?

"when the sun goes down" which we'll be releasing soon!!!

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge?

Putting a new spin on the music that we love. I think we've been able to overcome this with our lyrics and different influences

What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?

We have a sampler for pads and effects and Dave accidentally pressed what was supposed to be our intro right before our last song. Out of no where "what is love, baby don't hurt me" started playing over the PA ... that was pretty awkward

Does touring and the other aspects of your professional life affect your private life?

I like to think of the two as the same. Music is my life and it affects everything I do

Any parting words for the readers?

Thanks to everyone who has supported us this far and get stoked because we'll be releasing new songs, photos, and tour dates this month!!!

Interview With Tyler Ward

It's that time of year. School's up and running-- a little slow for my liking and its getting a little hard to breathe from under all these apps! The stress levels reach an all time high [;)] and the only way out, for me atleast, is some good tunes.

So I went YouTube-ing the other day and I found exactly what I was looking for. His name is Tyler Ward and I'm telling you right now, this guy is destined to hit it big. Here's a little taste of what I'm talking about:

What'd I tell you? So check out this interview with him and be sure to drop some feedback and buzz it like hell!

What genre of music do you consider your work to be and who are your major influences?

Sing along pop/rock music. My major influences are the old Matchbox twenty and goo goo dolls. More modern are The Rocket Summer and anything that's good. anything that makes me grove, including lil' wayne.

How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

we meet at a battle of the bands competition. We were in separate bands. I was in a band called Set Forth, they were in a band called Abandonato. They beat us and came in 1st. we came in 16th. lol.

When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

1 and ½ years ago. No inspiration but the music itself.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

Playing with the fray at CSU’s moby arena in front of thousands of people was my favorite show. I’ve played all over the country... texas, Wyoming, new Orleans, new York, California.

What are your all time favorite songs? Who are your favorite artists?

Name by the Goo Goo Dolls. And a classical song called reflection by Secret Garden.

What is your favorite of all your songs?

Pages Of Life and Our Story's Told

What inspires your lyrics?

Real life situations.

Could you briefly describe the process of making and promoting an album?

recording…takes a long long long time. About three or four days per song. Mixing takes even longer. Then promoting it is easy, just use all of your outlets to get the idea out there!

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge?

We thought we would “Make it” a lot sooner, but this business is tough and we still have millions of miles to go. we overcome it by continuing to pursue music!

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

Do IT! And do it to the best of your ability. It’s going to be hard sometimes and people will promise you the world and deliver nothing. But, if you’re passionate about it, there is nothing greater in the world then making music with other people!

What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?

my guitarist slipped during a song and almost knocked me out with the neck of his guitar! Ha ha!

What’s your least favorite part about touring?

The Time it takes to get between states!

Does touring and the other aspects of your professional life affect your private life? Are you able to keep up with school work?

It does. Sometimes girlfriend relastionships are affected, that’s why I don’t have many relationships. Also, I am able to keep up with most everything! It’ s just finding balance!

Any parting words for the readers?

We as human beings are seriously able to make our dreams reality! That’s no joke! Don’t forget it!

Interview with Steven Foster from Crisis Jane

Alright so it's summer and I'm off duty but I can't help it! The second I came across this band I knew they were going places. I had to jump at the oppurtunity at an interview and stay one step ahead of the music tycoons. This band is definetly going places. I definetly mean every word when I say their music is astonishingly catchy and I feel totally at a loss of words to describe how surprised I am at not seeing their name plastered all over the pop-punk hits charts. So well anyway I had a little chat with Steven Foster, the bassist, so check it out! [just scroll down lolll]

What genre of music do you consider your work to be and who are your major influences?

We are Pop-punk/ Powerpop. Our major influences are Anberlin, City Sleeps, Mayday Parade, Dead and Devine

How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

Krys, Brendan and I went to School together, K-12. Ashton, we met in highschool, and Mike we met from playing shows together back when we were in other local acts.

When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

Crisis Jane officially formed January 2009. Every day life, our passion for music, love for preforming, and drive for sucess inspires us to make music.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

We have toured all over Canada. I personally love L'inco in Montreal, The WECC in Winnipeg, the Vineyard in Vancouver, and The Pavalion in Halifax. I Dislike alot of venues in the Canadian prairies, just for sound and location reasons.

What are your all time favorite songs? Who are your favorite artists?

I honestly can't name favourite songs. Too many of them.
Artists for me personally are Blink 182, Anberlin, City Sleeps, Afi, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and well, the list goes and goes haha,

What is your favorite of all your songs?

My personal Favourite is "Not Listening." It will be released soon.

What inspires your lyrics?
Definitely not my question to answer haha

Could you briefly describe the process of making and promoting an album?

Breifly, absolutely not haha. But I can tell you that you pour your life, and soul into your art. Countless hours writing, producing, recording, re-producing, mastering, designing, scheming, and promoting yourself goes into every album.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge?
2 Big things:

  1. Promoting ourselves to the best of our ability. We feel we do this very well with the materials we have, and say we are tackling this challenge.
  2. Financials. Always being able to afford everything. We kinda believe in "go big or go home." This Challange we feel we aren't tackling as well as we could.

What’s the ultimate goal/ direction for your band?

A career writing and recoding music.

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?
Never give up, and give it everything you have. And when have gave it everything you have, give it more.

What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?
First show ever, first song ever, we blew the power, all amps went out. So we sung the song acapella, and the entire crowd, without hearing the song, caught the jist and started singing along.

What’s your favorite and least favorite part about touring?
My favourite part is being able to play music every night and meet the amazing people we get to meet.
My least favourite part is poor eating habits, mixed with poor sleeping habits.

Does touring and the other aspects of your professional life affect your private life?
It definitely affects my personal life, but I honestly welcome it. It (music)is what I love to do, and if thats what comes with it, its totally worth it in my opinion.

Interview With Hopes High

You know what I've come to realize trying to find good bands to interview? Finding one with good vocals, unsuperficial  [is that even a word?] lyrics and soulful [yes. soulful.] instrumentals is hard. It's like trying to make your way, through the thick crowd, to the barricades of a 3 oh! 3 concert. For those of you who've gone to a 3 oh! 3 concert you know what I'm talking about. For those of you who haven't, you really should.

Well anyway, like I was saying it's hard to find a good band overall. And just when I was about to give up I found these guys. This band is called Hopes High and just listening to a few songs on their myspace, I realized it's because of bands like this one that the hopes for the pop/ punk music industry can stay high. So I got an interview with the drummer, Steve Tippeconnic and here's what he had to say:

What genre of music do you consider your work to be and who are your major influences?

We consider our music to be “pop punk”. We believe it is pop punk because we try to keep a very pop sound while many of the beats could be of a punk origin. Oh man, we have so many influences. I think some of our bigger ones include Boys like Girls, The Maine, Jimmy Eat World, and Blink 182.

How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

We have all known each other well since junior year of high school. The band was started that year when Keenan and I started jamming after school in my basement. After awhile of just us two, we decided we needed some other members so we asked Matt and Jesse to join us for a practice. The first practice with them we knew they were exactly what the band needed. TJ was in a previous high school band with Keenan and we decided he needed to be a part of Hopes High.

When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

We formed our band in my basement junior year of High School. I think music is everything to all of us, its what we want to spend the rest of our lives doing. We all have diverse influences also so it makes writing really easy. It just kind of just flows when we all get together.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

We have mainly preformed around Pennsylvania. Some of the frequent places we play are in State College, Altoona, and Philadelphia. I think I would say our favorite venue that we’ve ever played has to be a place called Jaggard in Altoona. I don’t think we have a least favorite venue. We just love playing wherever we can.

What are your all time favorite songs? Who are your favorite artists?

I think our influences cover our favorite artists. They range from Jimmy Eat World, All Time Low, The Maine, Relient K, Motion City Soundtrack, Sum 41, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, The Starting Line, Blink 182, U2, Lil Wayne of course.

What is your favorite of all your songs?

Me personally, It’s a tie between A Penny For Your Thoughts and Answer. I love the drumming of both of those songs.

What inspires your lyrics?

Everyday life. Jesse usually writes most of the lyrics and you can really tell that they come from his heart. Anything he is going through usually ends up in a song.

Could you briefly describe the process of making and promoting an album?

Oh man, that’s a big one. Well we usually start by brainstorming ideas for songs. That’s the point were at for our next EP right now. But we try to write as many songs as we possibly can so we can have a good selection to pick from on the final CD. Then we go into the studio and crank them out. To me that’s the most fun. I love being in the studio. Its like home to me. After we have the final product mixed and mastered, its time for shows and promotion. We just try to get as many shows as we can and get people to hear our music. And hopefully if they like it they will get a CD.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge?

I think our biggest challenge is to try to get signed and go on a big tour. Were trying to overcome that right now. Hopefully it will happen soon.

What’s the ultimate goal/ direction for your band?

I think the ultimate goal of our band is for all of us to make this our living. We all love playing music and if we could play every night for the rest of our lives, we’d be some pretty happy people.

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

Don’t hesitate! Just get together and play some music. You will know when you have the right chemistry and things will just pick up. And just make sure you’re having fun doing it. That’s the most important part.

What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?

Haha, well for me, one show I broke through two drum heads. I don’t usually break through any but two is just unreal in a show. I didn’t really know what to do.

What’s your favorite and least favorite part about touring?

I think my least favorite part about touring is the amount of sleep you get. You don’t get too much of it. The best part is definitely hanging out with the fans and playing the shows. We wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for those two.

Does touring and the other aspects of your professional life affect your private life? Are you able to keep up with school work?

It definitely affects our personal lives a lot. We practice and write everyday and try to play as many shows as we can so it does take up a lot of time. But three of us are also going to college and it hasn’t really been a problem. It’s easy to manage school work with being in a band.

Any parting words for the readers?

Just thanks so much for reading this and thanks to Harrini for asking us to be apart of this. It’s amazing. Also we love all of you and wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for you guys.

This interview is a little old. Now the band is simply a trio but nevertheless they're all still amazing musicians and now the trio consists of Mike Clark [guitarist], Brandon Reeder [drummer], and Brandon Ingley [guitarist]. Anyway here's the interview with them back when Ben [ex-guitarist] was still with them after their first Warped show.

The have toured with the Hint, opened for YellowCard, played Warped and headlined their own tour last year! They're young, they're determined and their music is insanely catchy!!! SO CHECK THEM OUT ON MYSPACE OR BUY THEIR ALBUM ON ITUNES!!!!! trustt meee you want to do this.

If you like All Time Low, Blink 182, Forever the Sickest Kids, Third Eye Blind or other Pop Punk Rock bands you willLOVE themm!!

What genre of music do you consider your work to be and who are your major influences?

I'd consider us pop punk / Alternative. Major influences are blink 182, 3rd eye blind, brand new

the band started in spring of 2004 and we were inspired by the thought of four best friends playing music that we love and having a great time!

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

We've performed all across the country, our favorite place is probably Rams Head Live back home in Baltimore :]

What has been your biggest challenge as a band?

Have you been able to overcome that challenge? our biggest challenge has been to break through a mold and set ourselves apart. I think the next record will really shine through with that quality.

What is the ultimate goal/ direction for your band?

to be able to support ourselves doing something we love and hopefully share same great music with people everywhere.

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

just keep it fun and hold that dream in your heart, eventually you'll get there.

What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?

mikey getting naked haha

What’s your favorite and least favorite part about touring?

favorite part is being free and meeting new people everyday, least favorite is not having a bed to sleep in every night.

Does touring and the other aspects of your professional life affect your private life? Are you able to keep up with school work?

none of us go to school or work so I guess it does lol

If you had two words to say to the readers right now what would they be?

So I have the stomach virus and I figured I'd go on Buzznet haha =]

I've been home, sick for the past few days so I decided I'd post my first journal.

Let me explain. I am what you would call an "aspiring journalist" lol I'm applying to colleges this fall so I need all the beef I can get to juice up my burger of a resume. and I honestly can't say that being a reporter/ A&E editor of our SCHOOL PAPER is very satisfying or impressive. I'd be lucky if anyone really read the paper before its folded into an airplane and shot across the room [although it is a refreshing break from long boring physics lecturess lol] sooo I figured I'd put them up on Buzznet where I know people will [hopefully] appreciate my interviews and band spotlights haha so help me out with a lot of feedback? please? I'd totally return the favor if you ever need anything. =D
